William Jay "Jack" Tharp, 89, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at 11:40 p.m. at Heritage Pointe in Warren, IN.
Mr. Tharp graduated from West Union Center High School in 1941. He was a lifetime farmer in Union Township and also worked at Roanoke Coil Factory, Huntington Laboratories and as a janitor at SS. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church. He was a member of Union Church.
He was born March 4, 1923, in Union Township to Walter and Mary Lavon (Miller) Tharp. He married Gladys Marie Gemmer on May 9, 1942, at her parent's home in Roanoke, and she survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Walter E. (Jan) Tharp, of Huntington; a daughter, Irene Westfall, of Huntington; a sister, Georgeanna Shellenbarger, of Huntington; seven grandchildren, Erika (Matt) LeMar, Alicia Tharp and Gentry Trimble, all of Huntington; Nicole (Eric) Hemmer, of Denver, CO; Lacey (Sam) Neal, of Washington, DC; Gered Trimble, of Portland, OR; and Geoffre Trimble, of Fort Wayne; and five great-grandchildren.
Calling is Tuesday, July 24, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 10 a.m. Rev. Howard Cherry will officiate. Burial will be in the Star of Hope Cemetery, Huntington County.
