Lloyd Towery Jr.

Lloyd Towery Jr., 87, of Van Buren, IN, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at 3:40 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, Warren, IN.

Mr. Towery was raised in Kentucky and enlisted in the United States Army in 1940. He served as a corporal in the field artillery during World War II for five years, including 27 months in the South Pacific. He worked at International Harvester, Fort Wayne, for 11 years and at GM CPC in Marion for 27 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Grace Community Church, Marion, as well as Van Buren American Legion Post 368, CPC Sympathy Cub and UAW Retirees.

He was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Berea, KY, to Lloyd and Lena Hoskins Towery. He and his wife, Beatrice, were married Oct. 13, 1945, in Lexington, KY. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Paula (Myron) Brankle and Judy (Richard) Zent, both of Van Buren; a son, Mark (Julie) Towery, of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Lorraine Hall, of Louisville, KY, and Wanda Englebart, of Denver, CO; nine grandchildren, Dan Brankle, Greg (Sarah) Brankle, Aaron Brankle, Scott (Holly) Zent, Steve Zent, Clark Chandler, Clayton Towery, Sheryl (Mike) Shook and Susan Zent; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Van Buren. A service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Interment will be at the Van Buren Cemetery, with military rites by the Grant County Honor Guard, of Marion.
