Ross J. Hoy, 84, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at 3 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hoy was a World War II veteran with the United States Army. He had worked at Bartlett Tree Service for over 50 years, most recently as district manager, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a member of the National Arborist Association and past president of the Indiana State Arborist Association. He was a former member of the Epworth Methodist Church. He was a boxer in the Cincinnati area where he held the Welter Weight Golden Gloves Championship.
He was born Jan. 17, 1928, in Lancaster, OH, to Jacob and Helen Mauller Hoy. He married Ida M. Vanperson in October 1946 in Greenup, KY. She preceded him in death on Aug. 31, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Bee (Gary) Miller, of Huntington; a son, Steve (Sue) Hoy, of Fort Wayne; a sister, Francis Thompson, of Lancaster, OH; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Calling is Monday, July 30, 2012, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
