Sherman D. Gressley, 90, of Wabash, IN, and a native of Huntington County, IN, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 1:05 p.m. at Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Center, in Wabash.
Mr. Gressley, a former resident of rural Lagro, was a self-employed salvage operator and had worked in the plumbing and heating field. He was a World War II United States Army veteran, a lifetime member of the Lagro American Legion and a member of the Wabash Eagles Lodge.
He was born Sept. 6, 1921, in Huntington County to Henry and Lena Copeland Gressley. He married Nora Rebecca Bone in Columbus, OK, on April 4, 1946. His wife preceded him in death on May 13, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Jessie (Mary) Gressley, of rural Lagro; two daughters, Lena (William) Gray and Bernice Gressley, both of rural Lagro; two sisters, Betty Treska, of Lagro, and Bernice M. Simpson Meek, of Wabash; a brother, Ival L. Gressley, of Peru; six grandchildren, Sherman (Katy) Gray and Jessie Gray, both of Wabash; Tony Gressley and Dawn Gressley, both of Lagro; Angelena (Eric) Ryggs, of Wabash; and Jake (Heather) Gressley, of Huntington; and three great grandchildren.
A service was held on Monday, July 30, 2012, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, with Rev. Kurt Freeman officiating. Burial was at Murphy Cemetery, Wabash.
