James Frederick "Fred" Young, 91, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Tipton House in Huntington.

Mr. Young graduated from Huntington High School in 1939. He was a sergeant in the United States Army, serving in World War II and receiving three bronze stars. He owned Kent's Shoe Store in Frankfort for 39 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Central Christian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, both in Huntington.

He was born May 9, 1921, in Huntington to William Marion and Gladys Farley Young. He married Ruth Eloise Stands on Aug. 7, 1943, in New Orleans, LA. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Sally (David) Marlin, of Greensboro, NC; a son, James William (Jane) Young, of Cameron Park, CA; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday Aug. 3, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a service following at 11 a.m., at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. Rev. Gene Vickery will officiate. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, in Frankfort, with graveside military services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1110 and American Legion Post 12.
