C. Keith Burkart, 88, of Huntington IN, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at 8.55 p.m. at the Tipton House in Huntington.
Mr. Burkart retired from the Erie Railroad/Conrail as a brakeman after 30 years of service. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington. He graduated in 1942 from Andrews High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II.
He was born in Bippus on June 2, 1924, to Owen and Delia Denney Burkart. He married Helen Hunter in the summer of 1947 in Mishawaka. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Doug Burkart, of South Bend, and Carl Verne (Charmaine) Burkart, of Walkerton; three sisters, Loveta Hartle, of Huntington and Veva Schilling and Barbara Beckwith, both of Fort Wayne; and two granddaughters, Diana Burkart, of South Bend, and Maria Burkart of Folsom, CA.
Calling is Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will be held Tuesday Aug. 7, 2012, at 10 a.m. the mortuary, with Rev. Galen Lowery officiating. Burial will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Bippus. The V.F.W. Post 2698 will provide the military graveside services.
