Robert C. Childs, 93, of Warren, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at 8:45 p.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.

Mr. Childs graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1936 and served with the United States Navy during World War II. He farmed near Matthews for many years, moving to Fairmount in 1963. He was manager of the Emge Stock Yards in Fairmount for 26 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Matthews and attended the Fairmount Friends Meeting House. He was a member of the Fairmount Lions Club for many years.

He was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Matthews to Oliver Morton and Junietta Ruth Morris Childs. His first marriage was on Dec. 24, 1937, to Anna L. Moorman, who preceded him in death on July 6, 1988. He married Ruby Everitt McClarnon on Sept. 1, 1999, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Tom J. (Nancy) Childs, of Muncie; Mark (Sue Ellen) Childs, of Hagerstown; and Jeffrey J. (Connie) Childs, of Barrington, IL; a daughter, Linda (Gary) Bragg, of Muncie; two stepsons, Ronald McClarnon, of Indianapolis, and Jay McClarnon, of Bourbon; a stepdaughter, Diane Nei, of Huntington; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Childs, of Bethlehem, PA; a sister, Illon Freese, of Hartford City; 11 grandchildren Lori (Steve) Orander, Angela St. John, Rob (Rena) Childs, Michelle Healy, James (Genana) Bragg, Jay (Julianne) Bragg, Cory (Kelly) Childs, Kevin (Jamie) Childs, Emily Childs, Bret Sears, and Chris Childs; 12 step-grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, Fairmount, with Rev. Jackie Michaelson officiating. Calling is Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, with military rites, will be at the Matthews Cemetery.
