Dr. Kenneth M. Yoss, 86, of Fort Wayne, and having family members in Huntington, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012.
Dr. Yoss, a graduate of the University of Michigan, served with the United Sates Army during World War II. He was a professor of astronomy at the University of Illinois for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne Astronomical Society and the American Astronomical Society.
He was born in Hudson, IA, to Fred and Charlotte Yoss. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Lee Yoss, and is survived by his second wife, Pearl Harber Yoss.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Roberta (Bob) Hursthouse, of Naperville, IL; Barb Yoss, of Indianapolis; and Ann Yoss, of Sandwich, IL; three stepsons, Rick (Susie) Schreiber, of Bow Mar, CO; Dan (Jill) Schreiber and Tim Schreiber, both of Champaign, IL; two stepdaughters, Janet (Tom) Ashley, of Huntington, and Debbie (Denny) Hamilton, of Fort Wayne; a grandson, Scott Hursthouse; and 11 step-grandchildren.
A service was held Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at Covenant United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne, with Rev. Karen Koelsch officiating. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery & Chapel, Urbana, IL.
