Paul "Gene" Eugene Hammond, 69, of Fort Wayne, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at 3:34 a.m. at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hammond graduated in 1961 from Huntington Catholic High School. He was a former member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Huntington. He had worked for the Erie Lackawanna/Conrail Railways for 17 years and later was employed by Good Humor Breyers for over 25 years.
He was born in Huntington County on Oct. 18, 1942, to Paul D. and Mary Gephart Hammond. He married Betty J. Ley on July 8, 1961 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Jeffery (Tanya) Hammond, of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Tonya (Stephen) Fink, of Fort Wayne, and Angela (Christopher) Wing, of Huntertown; a brother, Charles Hammond, of Huntington; a sister, Patricia Fox, of Huntington; seven grandchildren and a stepgrandson, Katherine Hammond, Audrey Hammond, Miles Noe, Hilary Fink, Hannah Fink, Tyler Fink, Brianna Wing and Isabella Wing.
A service will be held on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 840 Cherry St., Huntington. Rev. Ron Rieder will officiate. Calling is Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
