Donald V. Lengel, 81, of rural Wabash, IN, died Sunday, Aug.12, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at his home.
Mr. Lengel owned Lengel's Gun Shop, in Wabash, for 30 years. He also worked at Container Corporation for 23 years, Ford Meter Box and B. Walters. He served with the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a substitute driver for Meals on Wheels and attended St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wabash.
He was born Aug. 2, 1931, in Wabash County to Leon Sr. and Catherine S. Smith Lengel. He married Mary C. Wittke on Sept. 11, 1954, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, in Wabash. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include nine children, Kathryn S. (Kenneth) Jones, Christine A. (Michael) Paul and Dewayne D. (Julia) Lengel, all of Wabash; David L. Lengel, of Fort Wayne; Stephen F. (Lisa) Lengel, of Urbana; Caroline M. (Steven) Nose and Patricia J. (Richard) Godfroy, both of LaFontaine; James V. Lengel, of San Francisco, CA; and Amanda K. (David) Van Jelgerhuis of Fishers; sister, Jeanette Greer, of Wabash; two brothers, Walter (Mary Jane) Lengel and Leon (Betty) Lengel Jr., both of Wabash; 30 grandchildren, 7 stepgrandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 23 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., with Dan Ryggs officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
