John D. Dearing, 68, of Landess, IN, and a native of Huntington County, IN, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at his home.

Mr. Dearing was employed by General Tire-Gencorp, in Marion, for 40 years, retiring in 2002. He was a former member of the United Rubber Workers and was later a member of the United Steel Workers. He attended high school in Van Buren and was a member of Amvets, in Marion, and the Sons of the American Legion, Van Buren.

He was born Aug. 25, 1943, in Huntington County to John W. and Avis Beck Dearing. His mother survives in Landess. He married Joyce V. Purvis, who survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Randall E. Dearing, of Landess, and John D. (Kathy) Dearing II, of Marion; a daughter, Patricia A. (Jeff) Cansler, of Fairmount; a sister, Linda Lee (Robert) Smith, of Converse; eight grandchildren, Ashley Ann Armstrong and Travis Andrew Dearing, both of Marion; Amber Renea Kennedy, of Landess; Randall Eugene Dearing II, of Fort Wayne; Austin Dee Cansler, Austina Danielle Cansler and Abigail Denise Cansler, all of Fairmount; and Haden Leon Lawson, of Kokomo; and six great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Van Buren. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Ron Herring will officiate. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
