Cecil Crawford Jr., 86, of Loon Lake, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at 6:56 a.m. at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Crawford attended Coesse High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a farmer and also worked at General Electric, retiring from Weatherhead Dana in 1991. He was a member of the Loon Lake Association and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Huntington.
He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Whitley County to George Cecil and Gladys Fern Traster Crawford. He married Elnora M. "Elly" Gaylord on June 12, 1948. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2005.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl (Steve) Hackett, of Churubusco; a son, Ronald (Darlene) Drawford, of Pierceton; three sisters, Betty Lawrence and Mary Lou Pittenger Lehman, both of Columbia City, and Donnabelle Comer, of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Dick Crawford, of Columbia City, and John Crawford, of Zellwood, FL; seven grandchildren, Taylor Crawford, Jacob Hackett, Tyler Hackett, Kaila Crawford, Kiley Crawford, Kegan Crawford and Kirsten Crawford; and a great-grandson.
Calling is Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St., Columbia City. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with military honors presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
Preferred memorials are gifts to the Loon Lake Association or Bear Lake Church of God Camp.
