George Rowe

George R. Rowe, 83, of Gas City, IN, and formerly of Warren, IN, and Van Buren, IN, died Jan. 14, 2009, at 10:15 a.m. at Wesleyan Health and Rehabilitation, Marion.

Mr. Rowe was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School, Huntington County, and had attended Taylor University in Upland. He retired from Indiana Wesleyan University, where he had worked in the maintenance department. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He attended the Main Street Wesleyan Church in Jonesboro.

He was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Radley, to Albert James and Estella May Shepherd Rowe. He married Betty Lou Banes Aug. 31, 1947, in Mishawaka. His wife survives.

Additional survivors are two daughters, Marcia Newby, of Kerrville, TX, and Teresa (Frank) Parks, of Sweetser; a son, James E. (Maria) Rowe, of Gas City; and a brother, Walter Rowe, of Lansdale, PA.

A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at the Main Street Wesleyan Church, Jonesboro, with Rev. Stephen Mowat officiating. Interment was at the Marion National Cemetery.
