Msgr. Raymond J. Balzer

Msgr. Raymond J. Balzer, 89, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a former pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, IN, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at St. Anne Home and Retirement Community, Fort Wayne.

Msgr. Balzer was ordained on June 4, 1949. In addition to serving at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, he served as a pastor or assistant pastor at churches in South Bend, Fort Wayne, Lagro, North Manchester, Plymouth, Monroeville and Auburn. He retired in 1999 and moved to St. Anne Home in 2005.

He was born June 20, 1923, in Beaver Falls, PA, to Frederick L. and Rose M. Hartleb Balzer.

Calling is Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 2120 S. Harrison St., Fort Wayne. The rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a vigil service will begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at 11 a.m., with calling from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Mass. Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades will officiate. Burial will be at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.

Preferred memorials are gifts to Pontifical Josephinium Seminary, Worthington, OH.
