Thelma I. Smith, 90, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at 12:55 p.m. at the home of her granddaughter in Roanoke, IN.
Mrs. Smith was co-owner of the T&R Alterations Shop from 1975 to 2007. She had also worked art Wabash Magnetics for 11 years, Gass' Ladies Shop and the Gossert Garment Factory. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, where she served as headmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. She was also a member of Women of the Moose and the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, both in Huntington.
She was born April 3, 1922, in Delphi to Richard B. and Elma Shaw Stewert. She married Everett H. Smith on March 21, 1936, in Marion. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Alma R. Elston, of Roanoke; a sister, Mildred Sweet, of Huntington; and three grandchildren, Shelia A. Garrison and Chad E. (Holly) Smith, both of Roanoke, and Michael R. (Penny) Elston, of Muncie.
Calling is Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A service will be held at the mortuary on Monday, Sept.24, 2012, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Ron Rieder officiating. Entombment will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County.
Preferred memorials are gifts to the Huntington County Humane Shelter or Parkview Home Health Care and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
