Rena M. Buchtel

Rena M. Buchtel, 77, of Marion, IN, and having family members in Andrews, IN, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at her home.

Mrs. Buchtel had lived in Wabash before moving to Marion in1956. She had been employed at Marion General Hospital and Modern Laundry, in Marion, and was a member of the Jalapa Freewill Baptist Church.

She was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Owensville, KY, to James N. and Anna Bowles Purvis. She married Marlin S. Buchtel on Jan. 1, 1980. Her husband preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1989.

Survivors include two sons, James (Sharon) Spence, of Somerset, and Ronnie (Katherine) Spence, of Andrews; two daughters, Kathy (Kenneth) Mullins and Claudia (Forest) Apple, both of Marion; two stepdaughters, Judy (Charles) Easterday, of Wabash, and Marlene (Darrel) Lutz, of Peru; a stepson, Marlin R. (Brenda) Buchtel, of Wabash; four sisters, Sarah Spence, Vine Gray, Ada Crouch and Allie Copher; a brother, Austin Purvis; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a service following at 1 p.m., at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Rev. Charlie Easterday will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
