Sue A. Schmalzried

Sue Ann Schmalzried, 68, of Apple Valley, CA, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died unexpectedly on Sept. 17, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center, in California.

Ms. Schmalzried graduated from Clear Creek High School, Huntington County, in 1962. She earned a bachelor's degree in teaching in 1966 from Ball State University, where she was a member of the Marching Mademoiselles Drill Team. She taught elementary school in Del Rio, TX, until 1971. She lived in Germany for four years before moving to Apple Valley, CA, where she was an owner and operator of home construction and interior design companies.

She was born March 7, 1944, in Huntington to Keith and Florence Schmalzried. Her mother survives in Huntington. She married Richard Nester, of Spencerville, in March 1966.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Anjanette (Steve) Cline, of Apple Valley, CA; a son, Adam (Linh) Nester, of Duarte, CA; two brothers, Jim (Karen) Schmalzried and Lee (Joni) Schmalzried, both of Huntington; and four grandchildren, Grace, Sherman, Ashlyn and Ayden.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 9160W-800N, Bippus. Private burial will be at a later date.

An additional service will be held in California in early November.
