Jack R. Newcome

Jack R. Newcome, 85, of Dresden, OH, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Saturday evening, Oct. 20, 2012, at Autumn Health Care Center in Coshocton, OH.

Mr. Newcome was a 1945 graduate of Dresden High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He was a self-employed building contractor until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Muskingum Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 399, in Dresden, OH, and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Dresden and the Eagles Lodge in Coshocton.

He was born March 20, 1927, in Trinway, OH, to Merrell and Nellie Bumpus Newcome. He married Ruth Cody, who preceded him in death. He married Edna Tyner on July 14, 2002, and she survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Dan (Annette) Newcome, of Nashport, OH; four daughters, Lois (Kenneth) Norris, of Zanesville, OH; Merrill (Tom) Rounds, of Cincinnati, OH; Jodie (Mark) Pape, of Dresden, OH; and Lucy (Michael) Stephan, of Charlotte, NC; two stepsons, Tim (Janet) Archer, of Laurelville, OH, and Randy (Robin) Archer, of Hanover, OH; two stepdaughters, Annette (Arnie) Schlater, of Adamsville, OH, and Cathy Lahr, of Huntington; a sister, Larcena Lacy of Frazeysburg, OH; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He is also survived by the mother of his children, Mary Barton, of Dresden, OH.

Calling is Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a memorial service following at 3 p.m., at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main St., Dresden, OH. Rev. Dr. James A. Schumacher will officiate at the service, and American Legion Post 399 will conduct military honors.
