Vaughn E. Hunnicutt

Vaughn E. Hunnicutt, 90, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a native of Markle, IN, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at his home.

Mr. Hunnicutt, a graduate of Rock Creek High School, served in the Asiatic Pacific and Philippines as a member of the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He again served from 1951 to 1952, during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Town & Country Food Company for 13 years and Dana for eight years. He retired from North American Van Lines after 15 years of service. He was a member of Coventry Baptist Church and the Arcola Lions Club.

He was born Jan 10, 1922, in Markle to Rue and Goldie Fightner Hunnicutt. He married Virginia I. "Ginny" Stuver on Oct. 3, 1945. His wife preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Rick (Cindy) Hunnicutt, of Fort Wayne, and Craig Hunnicutt, of Auburn; a brother, Max Hunnicutt, of Lakeside, CA; four sisters, Margaret Redding, of Bluffton; Ruby Bell, of Syracuse; Lucille Hewes, of Fort Wayne; and Eva Shillzer, of Marco Island, FL; and five grandchildren, Christina, Rachael, Eric, Nicholas and Alexander.

A service was held on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Entombment, with military honors, was at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.

Preferred memorials are gifts to Coventry Baptist Church.
