David Gene Whinery, 90, of Warren, IN, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.
Mr. Whinery graduated from Rock Creek Township High School in 1939 and earned a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University in 1942. He had been employed by Fleet Wings Aircraft, in Bristol, PA; North American Rockwell, in Columbus, OH, and in Downey, CA, where he worked on the space shuttle program; and Lima Tank Plant, Lima, OH.
He was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Huntington County to Dorel and Edna Prible Whinery. He married Maro Lowery on Aug. 27, 1942, in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Ann (Fred) Crowner; two sons, Dan (Peggy) Whinery and Dale (Katherine) Whinery; and seven grandchildren.
Calling is Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Applegate Chapel at Heritage Pointe, Warren. A service will be held in the chapel on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at 2 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Galen Lowery and Gerald Moreland will officiate. Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery, Huntington County.
Preferred memorials are gifts to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or the Alzheimer's Association, Washington, DC.
