Sylvester J. 'Jimmy' Nunley

Sylvester James "Jimmy" Nunley, 85, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at 5:15 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Nunley was a carpenter with Local 232, Fort Wayne, from 1966 to 1983. He had previously worked seven years as a custodian in the Melbourne, FL, schools. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean War.

He was born April 30, 1927, in Braeholm, WV, to James F. and Grace Dalton Nunley. He married Hester Ward on Jan. 22, 1946, in Paintsville, KY. His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2010.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Marie) Nunley, of Ossian, and Frank Nunley, of Huntington; two daughters, Diane (John) Wolski, of Syracuse, and Betty (Russell) Rulason, of Whittemore, MI; a brother, David Nunley, of Milton, MA; seven sisters, Polly (George) Carver, of Raceland, KY; Mary Ward and Faye Nelson, both of Reed City, MI; Bonnie Potter, of Pine Bluff, AR; Margaret Rinfroe, Shirley King, and Barbara (Johnnie) Tackett, all of Ashland, KY; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling is Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Steve Kohler officiating. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington.
