Virgil P. 'Phil' Rowe

Virgil Phillip "Phil" Rowe, 61, of Huntington, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at 1:50 p.m. at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Rowe was employed as circulation manager for The Huntington County TAB. He retired from General Electric Corporation with 38 years of service. He had carried newspapers since he was a young boy, and served as an emergency medical technician.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2689 and was very active on the V.F.W. Military Rites team.

He was born Oct. 22, 1947, in Huntington to Virgil and Elizabeth "Betty" Leedy Rowe. He married Paula Clark on July 31, 1971, in Huntington. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Matthew Rowe, of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, Sara (Andrew) Baker, of Roanoke; and two sisters, Rita (Phil) Rorick and Renee (Dave) Keller, both of Huntington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at  SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, with Rev. Ron Rieder officiating. Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Pat Rorick, Paul Rorick, Doug Keller, Joe Keller, John Boyer and Bob Gottschalk.

Military rites were conducted by VFW Post 2689. Performing the ritual were Ralph Miller, Carl Smith, Dave Rinehart, Mike Hilton, John Stoffel, Jerry Wallling, Jerry Helms, Wayne Ashbaugh and Mike Smith.

Memorials may be made to Cancer Services of Huntington County, Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, or V.F.W. Post 2689 in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home 715 N. Jefferson S., Huntington, IN 46750.
