Melissa J. Hunckler, 57, of Huntington, IN, died Monday morning, Dec. 10, 2012, at her home.

Mrs. Hunckler had worked as a clerk at the Huntington Post Office for more than 20 years, retiring in 2009. She was a member of the Northeastern Indiana Deaf Awareness council and SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Huntington.

She graduated from St. Rita School for the Deaf and attended Gallaudet University.

She was born July 26, 1955, in Saginaw, MI, to William J. and Jean Dafoe Petrie. She is survived by her father, a resident of Cincinnati, OH. She married Francis J. Hunckler, who survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Sunni Hart, of Harrison, TN; two sons, Samson Hunckler, of Indianapolis, and Jason Hunckler, of Fishers; four brothers, Toby Petrie, of Dayton, OH, and Paul Petrie, Terry Petrie and Pat Petrie, all of Cincinnati, OH; three sisters, Debbie Cappel, Mary Kay Studer and Becky Schoemer, all of Cincinnati, OH; and four grandchildren, Callie Hart, of Harrison, TN; Colson Hunckler and Cayden Hunckler, both of Indianapolis; and Daniel Hunckler, of Fishers.

Calling is Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hunckler residence, 7140W-900N, Huntington. No service is planned.
