Richard M. Retherford

Richard M. Retherford, 81, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at 4:06 p.m. at his home.

Mr. Retherford, a former resident of Marion, graduated from LaFontaine High School in 1949 and attended Kentucky Christian College and Elkhart University. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War as a captain with the 82nd Airborne Division.

He served many churches as an ordained minister. He had also worked as a harness horse trainer, truck stop manager and dental technician.

He was born Jan. 25, 1931, in Marion to Ralph and Virgialee Colecord Retherford.
Survivors include a son, David (Sherry) Retherford, of Huntington; two daughters, Darlene (Tom) Walden, of Poneto, and Dana (Lonnie) Hafenstine, of Wellington, CO; a sister, Roberta Klein, of Marion; and a sister-in-law, Carol Retherford, of Marion.

A graveside service was held on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, with Rev. Mary Ann Freeman officiating. Military rites were conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689.

Bailey-Love Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
