Edwin F. "Ted" Rogers, 90, of Syracuse, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Rogers graduated from Ridgeville High School in 1942, studied electrical engineering at Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne and graduated from Oregon State. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and was commissioned as a Signal Corps officer, serving in Italy. After World War II, he helped reorganize the National Guard by starting the National Guard unit in Huntington, which he commanded for five years. He retired from the Indiana National Guard in 1968 as a lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Rogers opened a radio repair shop in Huntington in 1946, branched out into two-way radio and sound systems and began manufacturing electronic controls in 1964. He incorporated Rogers Electrro-Matics in 1969 and relocated the business to Syracuse in 1971. He sold the corporation in 1990 and retired.
He was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Huntington, past president of the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the board of directors of the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation. He revived the Wawasee Flotilla in 1973 and served on the flotilla committee for 21 years.
He was born Nov. 15, 1922, near Ridgeville to William F. and Lottie Frantz Rogers. He married Marjorie Power in 1942.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn (Tony) Johnson, of California; two grandchildren, Marni and Ronald; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling is Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458E-1000N, Syracuse. A service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at 2 p.m.
