Ernest E. "Smoke" Powell, 62, of rural Lincolnville, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at 2:40 p.m. at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Powell had worked at Exel in Bunker Hill the past three years. He had previously worked at Zimmer Medical, in Warsaw, for 17 years and at Brown, in Wabash, for 21 years. He was a member and former chief of the Lincolnville Volunteer Fire Department.

He was born Aug. 27, 1950, in Wabash to William Kenneth "Kenny" and Christine Edmonds Powell. He married Lori Fryer Kieninger on March 27, 1981, in Wabash. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Steven K. Kieninger, of Wabash, and Michael E. (Trisha) Powell, of Bronson, IA; three daughters, Casa (Donny) Goff, of Edgerton, OH; Dereka (Shaun) Samuel, of Wabash; and Cindy Stellar, of Huntington; two brothers, William Kenneth (Susie) Powell, of Wabash, and Steven Powell, of Roann; a sister, Linda (Terry) Sloan, of LaFontaine; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Calling is Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Doug Barton officiating. Burial will be at Center Grove Cemetery, Lincolnville.
