Delbert C. Smith, 75, of Van Wert, OH, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Smith was retired from Thomas Edison Schools, where he was a workshop specialist. He had also worked at Freuhauf Trailer Company, Fort Wayne, for 23 years. He was a member of Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert, OH, and was involved with the Banquet Table Food Pantry at the church.

He was born Oct. 22, 1937, in Huntington to Chester Ray and Iona Algerine Kennedy Smith. He married Janet Smith, and his wife survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Ellis (Lee) Mynatt, of Durham, NC, and Pam Smith, of Van Wert, OH; two sons, Rodney (Candy) Smith, of Convoy, OH, and Michael (Tammy) Smith, of Oakwood, IL; a brother, Carlos (Marie) Smith, of Goldsboro, NC; a sister, Janet Garretson, of Huntington; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Brock) Overholt, Nathanael Smith, Jordan Smith, Arin Smith, Dezaray Barr, Joshua Barr, Nikolas Ellis and Maranda Mynatt; and a great-grandchild.

A service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert, OH. Rev. Steve Savage and Rev. Neil Hammons will officiate. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, OH.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Vancrest Activities Fund or Trinity Friends Church.
