Nellie "Louise" Sawyer, 83, of Bluffton, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at 9:15 p.m. at Christian Care Retirement Community.
Mrs. Sawyer worked as a medical assistant at Cooper's Continuing Care for several years. She was a member of the American Legion Post 111 Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge.
She was born March 1, 1929, in Ashland, KY, to Willie "Bill" and Anna Mae McDowell, Thompson. Her first marriage was to Jonnie Mac Thompson, who preceded her in death in 1989. She married Tommy F. Sawyer on July 30, 1997, in Greenup, KY, and he survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Steven (Cheryl) Thompson and Paul (Victoria) Thompson, both of Huntington; two daughters, Deb (Rod) Mossburg, of Liberty Center, and Tammy Sumwalt, of Geneva; a stepdaughter, Pam (Terry) Liddy, of Bluffton; three stepsons, Dave (Charlotte) Sawyer, of Balbec; Jeff Sawyer, of Bluffton; and Mike (Lisa) Sawyer, of Indianapolis; two daughters-in-law, Connie Thompson, of Keystone, and Harriett Thompson, of Ossian; a brother, Everett (Marty) Thompson, of Armand Beach, FL; four sisters, Peggy Bayes and Donna (Barney) Creamer, both of Inverness, FL, and Beulah Murphy and Janet Kleinknight, both of Bluffton; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
Calling is Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. A service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at 10 a.m., with Jeff Lemler officiating.
