Drake E. Omstead, 82, formerly of Andrews, IN, died Jan. 18, 2013, in Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw,

Mr. Omstead graduted from Andrews High School in 1949. He received his bachelors' degree in music from Ball State University in 1953. He went on to receive his masters' degree from Western Michigan University. He served a tour in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of captain. Mr. Omstead spent more than 20 years as a band director in northern Indiana and southern Michigan schools. Later he embarked on several entrepreneurial ventures, most recently an owner of Team CKD Transport LLC. He received his Eagle Scout designation as a young man.

He was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Hackensack, NJ, to Trevalyn and Katherine Omstead. He married Janis Tullis, of Andrews, on Mary 29, 1953. His wife survives.

Additional survivors are a daughter, Claudia Archer, of Warsaw; three sons, Robert Omstead, of Alaska; Carl Omstead, of California; and John Omstead, of Mokena, IL; and a grandson, Trevor Omstead, of Naperville, IL.

Calling is Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Celebrations United Methodist Church, Winona Lake, with a memorial service following immediately after. Rev. Holly White and Rev. Cindy Gackenheimer will officiate. A private interment service will be held.
