Harold L. Brower

Harold L. Brower, 87, of Columbia City, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at 11 p.m. at his home.

Mr. Brower attended schools in South Whitley and Cleveland Township, Whitley County, and later earned his GED. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army for more than 10 years. He had been employed by Freuhauf Trailer Company, Fort Wayne, and retired from Teamsters Local 414 in 1977. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in South Whitley and American Legion Post 258 in Pierceton. He was a member of the Collamer Church of God and attended the Larwill Wesleyan Church.

He was born May 5, 1925, in South Whitley to Reed and Ida Irene Rivet Brower. He married Grace L. Gaff on Feb. 17, 1946, in Huntington. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Wanda K. (Larry) Bolint, of Grants Pass, OR; Susan L. (James) Converse, of Buchanan, MI; and Sandra L. (Matthew) Courter, of Pierceton; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Calling is Tuesday, Jan, 29, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a service following at 1 p.m., at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Rev. Tom Beck will officiate and the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill.
