Dorothy M. Porter, 89, of Marion, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Miller's Merry Manor in Marion.
Mrs. Porter, a former resident of the Fairmount and Silver Lake areas, had owned and operated Dot's Restaurant and Old Farm House Special Occasions in Fairmount. She had also worked for Kraft Foods and Wildman's Laundry. She attended school in Kentucky and attended Hope Baptist Church in Kentucky.
She was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Warren County, KY, to Thomas and Zula Hawks Sears. She married Gordon D. Porter, who preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Deanna (Joe) Ellis, of Greentown; a son, Tom (Paula) Hinton, of Huntington; a daughter-in-law, Kay Hinton, of Pilot Point, TX; a sister, Ann Maish, of Miami; eight grandchildren, Shea (Greg) Buck, of Swayzee; Bailey Hinton, of Huntington; Lisa (Clay) Bruno, of Plano, TX; Johnna (Frank) Kudlac, of Pilot Point, TX; Joe (Deb) Hinton, of Seward, AK; Stacia (John) McLimore, of Carmel; and Jacque Ellis, of Indianapolis; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
