Ruth E. Edwards

Ruth Ellen Edwards, 86, of Warren, IN, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.

Mrs. Edwards attended Dixon (IL) High School, leaving school after her mother's death to care for her siblings. She earned her high school diploma from Rensselaer Central High School in 1990. She was employed as a supervisor at the Freeman Shoe Company in Dixon, IL, making Army boots during World War II. She had also worked at W.T. Grant, as a reading tutor in the Warsaw Community Schools and as a licensed practical nurse at Murphy Medical Center, Warsaw.

She volunteered as chaplain assistant at the Murphy Medical Center, treasurer of the Jasper County Hospital Auxiliary and as a clerk in the hospital gift shop. She served on mission work trips to Laurel Mission, KY, and Stilwell OK. While living at Heritage Pointe, she volunteered in the gift shop and with bingo activities.

She was born April 11, 1926, in Dixon, IL, to Frank Davis and Frances Irene Taylor Wiggins. She married Herbert LeRoy Edwards in 1945, and he survives.

Additional survivors include four daughters, RoxyAnn (Michael) Casper, of Decatur; Marsha Edwards, of Indianapolis; Theresa (Gary) Wright, of Frankton; and Denise Edwards, of Corvallis, MT; a sister, Betty Jean Murray, of Dixon, IL; two brothers, Gerald Herbert Wiggins, of Deltona, FL, and Harold Allen Wiggins of Dixon, IL; seven grandchildren, Ella Casper, Emma (Forrest) Powell, Evan Casper, Ephrem Casper, Brandy (John) King, Trent VanBriggle and Taylor VanBriggle; two step grandchildren, Kevin (Cindy) Wright and Todd (Tyra) Wright; two great-grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.

Calling is Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a service following at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Heritage Pointe, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren. Burial will be at Springhill Cemetery, Heritage Pointe.

Memorial gifts may be made to the United Methodist Memorial Foundation, Warren, or Family Life Care, Berne.
