Robert D. Rowe

Robert Dean Rowe, 83, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Rowe graduated from Huntington High School and Indiana University, where he was a member and senior year president of Sigma Phi. He served in the United States Navy and Air Force aboard the USS Hawk based out of New Orleans, LA, and was wounded by friendly fire.

He had been employed by Brown Shoe Company in Chicago and Indianapolis; owned a family business, Metalloid Corp., in Huntington; was traffic manager for Union Oil, in Los Angeles, CA; owned and managed Brown & Rowe Shoes, in Huntington; and oversaw Rowe Industries. He assisted with the congressional and senate campaigns of Dan Quayle, managed the Fort Wayne office of Quayle and Richard Lugar and worked in Quayle's office in Indianapolis. He was currently employed as a real estate broker in the Coventry office of Coldwell Banker Roth Wehrly Graber.

He was born Jan. 23, 1930, in Huntington to Velma and Elmer Rowe. He is survived by is wife of 47 years, Bette Sue Rowe.

Calling is Friday, March 29, 2013, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with a service following at 5 p.m., at The Chapel, 2505 W. Hamilton Rd., Fort Wayne. Rev. Rick Hawks will officiate. Entombment will take place at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
