Mary Hooten, 88, a former resident of Huntington County,IN, and Churubusco, IN, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at 11:26 p.m. at North Ridge Village Nursing Home in Albion.
Mrs. Hooten retired from Dana Corporation in Churubusco in 1987. She was a member of the Churubusco Church of the Nazarene and its "What Would Jesus Do" Sunday school class, where she taught children's Sunday school for 20 years.
She was born Jan. 2, 1925 in Alberta, Canada, to Alec and Anna Shapka Syniak. She married Burdette Hooten on Oct. 13, 1945. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Randy G. (Kay) Hooten, of Spring Hill, FL, and Gary J. (Jan) Hooten, of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Anita J. Trotter, of New Haven, and Connie (Douglas) Claxton, of Churubusco; a brother, Metro Syniak of Alberta, Canada; and two sisters, Lily Fewchuk and Jenny Jenson, both of Alberta, Canada; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Calling will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, located at 206 N. Main St., Churubusco. A service will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior, at the Churubusco Church of the Nazarene, 1000 W. Whitley, Churubusco, with Rev. Paul D. White and Rev. Eddie R. Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
