Denver D. Brooks

Denver D. Brooks, 80, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City.

Mr. Brooks graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1950 and served as a corporal in the United States Army. He was a farmer, retiring from farming in 1988. He had also worked in the Huntington University maintenance department for 10 years, retiring in 1998.

He was a charter member of the Forks of the Wabash Pioneer Festival steering committee, president of the Antique Tractor & Engine Club at the pioneer festival, president of the Antique Tractor Club of Huntington and a former Sunday school superintendent and adult Sunday school teacher at Faith Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was born Aug. 11, 1932, in Huntington to Theodore and Laura Rupley Brooks. He married Benita Byrd on May 16, 1954, in Huntington. His wife preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 1998.

Additional survivors include three sons, Jeff (Patricia "Po") Brooks and Neil (Sandy) Brooks, both of Huntington, and Kent (Debbie) Brooks, of Gas City; a daughter, Renee (Mike) Doctor, of Huntington; two sisters, Norma Pohler, of Huntington, and Geneva Stetzel, of Wabash; two brothers, Robert Brooks and Don Brooks, both of Huntington; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a companion, Bonnie David, of Columbia City.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 5:30 p.m., with calling beginning at 4 p.m., at Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, Goblesville. Rev. Diane Seigel will officiate.
