Jerry L. Griffith

Jerry L. Griffith, 80, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Griffith retired in 1973 from the Fort Wayne Police Department, where he had been employed for 20years in capacities ranging from patrolman to captain of juvenile aid. He had also been employed by Lincoln National Bank for 17 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Southside High School, Fort Wayne, and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a member of American Legion Post 241 in Waynedale.

He was born April 3, 1928, in Huntington to Gayle and Opal Slater Griffith. He married Shirley A. Kilty on March 17, 1951. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Sandra L. (George) Juillerat, of Ossian, and LeeAnn (Mike) Richter, of Columbia City; three sons, Guy W. (Eileen) Griffith, Richard N. (Tina) Griffith and Bret A. (Deborah) Griffith, all of Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
