Norma L. Gerber, 77, of Syracuse, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at 12:57 a.m. at the home of her daughter in Bristol.
Mrs. Gerber graduated from Bluffton High School in 1953 and attended Lake Forest College, in Lake Forest, IL, and Ball State University, in Muncie. She was a homemaker and the former co-owner of Schacht Rubber Products and Gerber Networking, both in Syracuse. She had also worked in the library at Wawasee High School.
She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, in Syracuse, and a former member of Tri Kappa, in Bluffton.
She was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Bluffton to Chauncey Kenneth "C.K." and Cleeda E. Schafer Reid. She married John C. "Jack" Schacht Sr. on Jan. 1, 1956, in Bluffton; he preceded her in death on June 3, 1980. She married Gerald L. "Gary" Gerber on Feb. 14, 1987, in Syracuse; he preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 2005.
Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia (Stan) Anderson, of Stafford, MO; Susan (Ted) Hege, of Bristol; and LeeAnn (Brad "Bud") Roby, of Syracuse; a son, John Schacht Jr., of Syracuse; a sister, Romanel (Joe) Biberstine, of LaPorte; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, May 1, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Mark Eastway officiating. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
