Richard E. Allison, 87, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 9:05 a.m. at The Heritage of Huntington.
Mr. Allison graduated from Huntington Township High School in 1943. He was employed by the Huntington Fire Department from 1959 to 1984, serving as firefighter and assistant chief. He was a member of the United States Navy during World War II and earned four stars while serving in the Pacific. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, Huntington.
He was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Huntington to Aubrey G. and Viola Shearer Allison. He married Virginia Wilhelm on May 26, 1946; she preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Robert D. (Rosanne) Allison, of Trafalgar, and William W. (Sheila) Allison, of Huntington; five grandchildren, Brian Allison, of Franklin; Jill (Randy) Shewmaker, of Indianapolis; Bambi Bicknell, of Greencastle; and Abby Allison and Stephanie (Matt) Ingle, both of Huntington; and five great-grandchildren.
Calling is Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 11201 S. Marion Rd.-35, Marion.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Lung Association or the organization of the donor's choice in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home.
