Mary Hanson

Mary Hanson, 89, of Marysville, KS, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Cambridge Place, in Marysville, KS.

Mrs. Hanson graduated from Huntington High School in 1942 and studied at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, to become a registered nurse. She worked as a private duty nurse in Marysville, as an RN at the Marysville Hospital and as a school nurse at Valley Heights.

She and her sisters sang in churches and on the weekly Chris Schenkel Jingle Song radio show; she later sang in the choir of the Waterville (KS) Methodist Church, where she was a member. She also acted in several Waterville Community Theater productions. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Empty Spoon Club and had served as an assistant leader for the Senior Girl Scouts.

She was born March 18, 1924, to L.D. and Mildred Smith Orr. She married Carl Hanson on April 5, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Carla Hanson, of Shawnee, KS, and Lorri (Robert) Watts, of Marysville, KS; a son, Kevin Hanson, of Roeland Park, KS; two sisters, Marjorie Essig and Pat Landis, both of Huntington; and two grandchildren, Austin Watts and Brock Watts.

A service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Waterville, KS. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Waterville, KS.
