Ernest L. Cobbs, 94, a resident of Heritage Pointe, Warren, IN, died Thursday, May 9, 2013.
Mr. Cobbs graduated from Roanoke High School in 1937. He farmed for 10 years, then studied at Fort Wayne Bible College, Taylor University, Asbury Seminary and Garrett Biblical Institute. He pastored United Methodist Churches in Bobo, Vallonia, Lincolnville, Converse, Shipshewana, Arcola, Russiaville and Grass Creek and ministered on a part-time basis at Wolf Lake. He moved to Upland in 1994. He was a member of the Upland United Methodist Church and volunteered at the University Nursing Center, Upland, for 10 years.
He was born March 30, 1919, near Darlngton to Marion and Sarah Vangie Cramer Cobbs. He married Geraldine Swing on Sept. 3, 1939, and she preceded him in death after 69 years of marriage.
Survivors include four sons, James (Kate) Cobbs, of Fremont; DeWain (Jeannie) Cobbs, of Warsaw; Charles Cobbs, of Upland; and Joseph Cobbs, of Alpine, TX; two daughters, Patricia (Dan) Stanley, of Van Buren, and Catherine (Gerald) Clayton, of Sidney, OH; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A service was held on Monday, May 13, 2013, at Jones-Smith Funeral Home, Upland, with Rev. Rob Neel officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Huntertown.
