Flora M. Kirtley, 92, of Bluffton, IN, and having family members in Warren, IN, died Sarturday, May 18, 2013.
Mrs. Kirtley graduated from high school in Peru. She earned a two-year teaching degree from Illinois State University Normal and completed her teaching degree at Ball State University in 1963. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Illinois and later taught at Liberty Center School and Southern Wells Elementary School, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Liberty Center Baptist Church for more than 70 years and a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was involved with the Wells County Homemakers Club and volunteered at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 2, 1920, in Lebanon, KY, to Maggie and Ralph Morris. She married John Kirtley on June 7, 1942, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Robert Kenneth "Kenny" (Sharon) Kirtley, of Crossville, TN; a daughter, Karol Anne (Larry "Lee"), of Bluffton; six grandchildren, Robert John "Bob" Kirtley, of Bluffton; Lesa Lynn (Jim) Neal, of Geneva; Jody (Steve) Teague, of Warren; Tanya (Tony) Evard, of Kendallville; and Kirt (Tammy) Slater and Kimberli (Tad) Steckbeck, both of Bluffton; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Calling is Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. A service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013, at 1 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Sonlight Wesleyan Church, Marion. Rev. Lyle Breeding will officiate. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, Bluffton.
