Hugh W. Smith

Hugh W. Smith, 89, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Miller's Merry Manor.

Mr. Smith worked as a welder. He served with the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. He was a 50-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, Huntington, and served as post commander from 2005 to 2006.

He was born Nov 2, 1923, in Pike County, AR, to Morgan and Emma Fox Smith. He married Dorma Faye Nichols on March 5, 1948, in Hot Springs, AR. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Jo Ellen Ehler, of Huntington; Mary Elizabeth (Dennis) Booth, of Niles, MI; and Deborah Ann (Stuart) Frummer, of Bethel, NY; and three grandchildren, Anthony Paul Ehler, Katie Jo Ehler and Megan Jones Frummer.

Calling is Tuesday May 28, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Marion National Cemetery, in Marion.
