Richard Eugene Bussard, 85, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Monday, June 3, 2013, at Covington Manor, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Bussard was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from South Side High School in 1990 after teaching for 34 years and had served as president of the Fort Wayne Teachers Union. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 423 in Orland, the Steuben Lake Council and Lime Lake Gage Association. For the past 22 years, he spent winters in Florida and summers at Lime Lake in Angola.
He was born in Huntington to Arthur and Anna Bussard. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Bussard. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary Ann Bussard.
Additional survivors include two sons, Greg Bussard and Neil (Nancy) Bussard; five stepchildren, Michael (Karen) Grashoff, Donald (Kathy) Grashoff, Steven (Laurie) Grashoff, Susan Grashoff and Arnold (Denise) Grashoff; three grandchildren, Matthew, Tom and Kim; 15 stepgrandchildren; and 20 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, June 5, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
