Terry Alan Hammel, 68, of Jacksonville, FL, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2013, at 10:50 p.m. at the Haven Hospice in Orange, FL.
Mr. Hammel graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1963 and attended Universal Truck Driving School at LaSalle University. He had been employed by Fox Products, Inc., in South Whitley as a engine lathe machinist and at Transfleet Enterprises, Fort Wayne, as a truck driver. He retired in 2010.
Mr. Hammel was inducted into the Huntington County Hall of Fame for basketball. He attended Faith Chapel United Methodist Church while living in Huntington and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
He was born May 23, 1945, in Huntington to Meredith Luther and Marion Jean Steele Hammel. His mother survives in Huntington. He married Connie Rae Reckard on Aug. 13, 1965, in Huntington, and she survives.
Additional survivors include two sons Stacy Lane (Alysia) Hammel, of Warsaw, and Tyler (Angela) Hammel, of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Tina (Kevin) Easterday, of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Ron Hammel, of Huntington; Steve (Shirley) Hammel, of Palm Harbor, FL; and Brent Hammel, of Roanoke; a brother-in-law, Terry (Cheryl) Reckard, of Huntington; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling is Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a service following at 11 a.m., at Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 2978W-1100N, Huntington. Rev. Diana Siegel and Andrew Hawk will officiate. Burial will be at Beech Grove Cemetery, Huntington County.
