Rebecca J. Merckx, 93, of Huntington, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at The Heritage of Huntington.
Mrs. Merckx had worked at Wolf and Dessauer Department Store in Huntington for 14 years and retired as an employee of City Utilities. She and her husband owned Merckx Funeral Home in Huntington, now known as McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, from 1956 to 1978. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality.
She was born July 16, 1920, in Lafayette Township, Allen County, to Elmer and Clemmie Griffith Platt. She married Edward Merckx on Sept. 14, 1942, in Roanoke. Her husband preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 2010.
Survivors include a sister, Patricia Switzer, of Roanoke.
Calling is Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m., at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. Rev. John Pfister will officiate. Burial will be at Hoverstock Cemetery, Zanesville.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church for Masses or to the charity of the donor's choice in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home.
