Richard William Wagner, M.D., 91, of Indianapolis, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at 8:08 a.m. at St. Vincent Hospital, in Indianapolis.
Dr. Wagner graduated from the Indiana University Medical School in 1951 and was a family practice physician in Huntington from 1953 until retiring in 1990. He had served as chief of staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital, was a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and served as a delegate to the Indiana State Medical Association. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Huntington, and attended Ascension Lutheran Church, in Beech Grove after moving to Indianapolis in 2008.
He served in the United States Army's 105th Station Hospital in North Africa and Italy from 1942 to 1945, during World War II. He was a member of the United States Air Force Reserves and served as a first lieutenant and flight surgeon with the United States Air Force in Korea in 1953.
He was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Gary to Samuel and Anna Drotleff Wagner. He married Carolyn F. Stine on Aug. 31, 1947, in Frankfort. His wife preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2008.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Patrice) Wagner, of Indianapolis, and Kurt (Sally) Wagner, of Houston, TX; two daughters, Anna Wagner and Sara (Don Jr.) Kimmel, both of Fishers; a brother, Dr. Robert (Marcia) Wagner, of Estero, FL; three grandchildren, Emily (Aaron) Rode, Kristina Kimmel and Samuel Kimmel; and a great-granddaughter.
Calling is Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a service following at 3 p.m., at Ascension Lutheran Church, 602 S. 9th Ave., Beech Grove. Rev. Mark Wagner will officiate.
Additional calling will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, from 10 a.m. to noon at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. Burial, with a United States Army honor guard, will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Indiana University Medical School or Ascension Lutheran Church, both in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary.
