Ralph F. Hine, 105, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a former resident of Roanoke, IN, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at 6:10 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hine worked as a greenskeeper at Brookwood Golf Course until entering the United States Army in 1942. He served as a glider pilot with the 82nd Airborne Division in seven countries, earning two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was employed as a foreman at Waynedale Lumber for 35 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke.
He was born Aug. 30, 1908, in Bulltown, Whitley County, to Lewis F. and Nora M. Pequignot Hine. He married Ruth M. Kaough on June 5, 1948, in Fort Wayne. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sisters, Marcella Palmer and Helen (Leon) Guillame, both of Fort Wayne.
Calling is Sunday, Oct. 13, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes, 240 Crestwood Drive, Roanoke. The rosary will be recited Sunday at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke, with Rev. Dale Bauman officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Roanoke.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church for Masses in care of Roanoke Memorial Chapel.
