Charles W. "Bill" Crago, 82, of Huntington, IN, died Friday evening, Oct. 25, 2013, at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.
Mr. Crago was an officer with the Huntington Police Department for 28 years, serving as chief of police under Mayor Ron Schenkel for the last eight years.
A 1948 graduate of Huntington Township High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 7, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689 and the Masonic Lodge, all in Huntington.
He was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Huntington to Laman and Esther Shively Crago. He married Patricia A. Braden on March 16, 1952, in Huntington. She preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 2004.
Survivors include a son, Thomas L. (Charlotte) Crago, of Huntington; a daughter, Teresa (Jon) Jennings, of Warren; a brother, Jim (Fondra) Crago, of Markle; a sister, Carolyn (Sue) Jones, of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a companion, Maro McBride, of Huntington.
Calling is Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Elzie Spencer officiating. Interment will be at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, in Huntington.
