Brother Mark Carrico

Brother Mark Carrico, OFM Cap., 57, of Detroit, MI, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013.

Brother Carrico was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a former employee of Our Sunday Visitor, both in Huntington. He also performed as a comedian and musician before becoming a part of the Capuchin Order. He was invested with the Capuchin habit in 1992 and perpetually professed his vows as a Capuchin friar in 1997.

He was elected to two terms on the order's Provincial Council. He served as executive director of the House of Peace in Milwaukee, WI, from 2003 to 2009, and served as director of the Office of Pastoral Care and Conciliation from 2008 to 2011. He currently served as local minister of St. Bonaventure Monastery, in Detroit, MI.

He was born Jan. 14, 1956, to Billy and Bettie Carrico. His mother survives in Fort Wayne.

He is also survived by four sisters, Terrie and Laura, both of Fort Wayne; Mary (Bryce) Burnworth, of Columbia City; and Betsy (Ron) Spiegel, of North Webster.

Calling is Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Bonaventure Chapel, 1740 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be conducted in the chapel on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the St. Bonaventure Monastery Cemetery, Detroit, MI.
