Harbert H. 'Dick' Richards Jr.

Harbert H. "Dick" Richards Jr., 73, of rural South Whitley, IN, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at 5:30 a.m. at his home.

Mr. Richards, a 1954 graduate of South Whitley High School, was a lifelong farmer and was actively engaged in farming until his death. He had also worked for Dana Corp., Fort Wayne, for about 30 years, retiring in 1999.
He drove a school bus for the Whitko Schools in the 1960s and early 1970s. He had a winter home in Florida and was a member of Collamer Christian Church, Mizpah Shrine and Eel River Masonic Lodge.

He was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Huntington to Harbert H. and Helen Reiff Richards. He married Jacqueline Sue Richards on Oct. 12, 1957. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Kent (Becky) Richards, of South Whitley; three daughters, Krista (Brian) Lickey, of Columbia City; Karra (Steve) Heggen, of Fort Wayne; and Kathryn (Mark) Grachek, of Winchester, KY; a brother, David (Judy) Richards, of South Whitley; six grandchildren, Cameron Lickey, Marissa (Boyd) Sallee, Andrew Cleland, Vanessa Cleland, Dayne Richards and Todd Rogers; nine stepgrandchildren, Michael Dimmick, Jessie Dimmick, Brandon Dillion, Arien Dillion, Brandon Grachek, Lindsey Grachek, Alyssa Heggen, Kristin Heggen and Mariah Heggen; and two stepgrandchildren.

Calling is Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, 208 N. Maple St., South Whitley. A service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Collamer Christian Church, 5850S-900W, South Whitley, with Rev. David Wagner, Rev. JP Freeman and Rev. Richard Austin officiating. Burial will be at the South Whitley Cemetery.
